Negro Amaro Rosato

The 2017 Negro Amaro Rosato is one of the best wines I've made to date. It is from the vineyard I lease, Benson Ranch, where I also grow Nero d'Avola and Petite Sirah. I've sold all of the grapes but the Nero in previous years in the early stages of business. Like the Nero d'Avola, the Negro Amaro grapes have beautiful brightness and concentrated fruit (everything at Benson Ranch is dry farmed with small berries). The Negro Amaro was foot-tread whole cluster and left on the stems and skins overnight. It was pressed the next day to neutral barrel and fermented and aged on the lees. The wine is savory--with dried herbs and herb flowers (got that garigue thing going on, blanched almond, and nectarine--concentrated, with a strong backbone of acidity and medium body. This wine reminds me of autumn.

12.5% alcohol. At bottling: total SO2 was 9 mg/L, free SO2 <2 mg/L
