Ah, California, the land of opportunity…to blend anything you want together…Marsanne and Roussanne are the most common of bedfellows, but Muscat in the mix? All joking aside, this wine originated with more thoughtfulness than I give myself credit. Elementally: Marsanne (70%), and especially Roussanne (12%), have beautiful density yet remain bright at low sugar levels, and Muscat blanc, aka Muscat Canelli (18%), brings heady aromatics, yet is subtle on the palate as a small portion of the blend.

All three grapes are grown side by side (sustainably, ecologically sound) in Contra Costa County at First Generation Farms on a mix of sand and clay. This wine is far more abundant in flavor and texture than its 10% alcohol would suggest, and is my interpretation of a session wine: chill it down cold and drink it all summer’s-day long.

Orange blossom, honeysuckle, hay, dried pineapple, lemon, salty.
