Solo Act 2020

Varietal:

53% Marsanne, 40% Roussanne, 7% Muscat blanc

Alcohol:

11%

Vinification Notes:

Marsanne, Roussanne, and Muscat blanc harvested together and briefly tumbled in the press for just a hint of skin contact before pressing, then fermented on full lees in stainless steel. After 6 months, the fully dry wine was racked off lees to neutral oak barrique to continue aging for an additional 12 months before bottling. Unfined. Unfiltered. Sediment expected.

Vineyard:

Marsanne, Roussanne, and Muscat blanc from The Urban Edge Farm, Knightsen, Contra Costa County; certified organic vineyard; sandy clay soils.

Martha's Notes

Solo Act 2020 casts a new spotlight on a favorite co-ferment of Marsanne, Roussanne, and Muscat blanc from The Urban Edge Farm in Contra Costa County. When crafting our Post Flirtation White blend, these three varieties are co-fermented before blending with Colombard or Vermentino for balanced acidity. In 2020, intuition suggested that we put aside a few barrels worth of wine from the co-ferment prior to blending and provide the wine its own stage — a solo act! Tasting this wine throughout a longer élevage in barrel provided a sensory bath full of emerging salty, umami-driven characteristics. This is a wine that I love to pair with food and consider what else around me shines when brought into focus.
