FW22 Winemaker Note

*The following can be read in print in our FW22 Tasting Tabloid, complimentary with every purchase of FW22 wines.*

This career ties me quite concretely to the cycles of the natural world. After fruit is harvested from the vine each fall, all the vine’s energy shifts direction—from the sun, air, and leaf back down to earth and root. And then the leaves fall, and there is no more shifting until spring’s upward push. Nature completes the show. Almost.

The yeast and bacteria that ferment our grapes each fall are the last, lone firework illuminating the sky before darkness, before it becomes too cold even for the microbial activity of decay—nature’s final act prior to true rest.

This collection reflects the density and detail that comes with the slowing current of fall and deep notes of winter. Crafted with fruit from four distinct harvests (2018-2021), these wines might offer our widest breadth of drinking-experience yet. The non-vintage wines are graceful bridges between the years. The single varietal and single vintage bottles offer more focused meditations on place and time. While the age and expression of each varies, they are all ready to enjoy without further aging.

Take your time getting to know each bottle, and enjoy each phase. I hope that they pull you gently down to earth with a loving reminder that life’s cycles are less neatly contained than we’d like to imagine.

Take good care,

Martha
