Pinot Noir 2023 Long Élevage

100% Pinot noir · Dry Farmed • Hawkeye Ranch • Redwood Valley · 113 cases

Planted in the 1960s, these dry-farmed vines show us what’s possible with Mendocino fruit. You’re hiking the hills of coastal California: warm Bay Laurel scented breeze, intoxicating with its almost menthol-like quality, homemade red candies, in-season cherries and the slightly dusty warmth of a cedar sauna.

750 ml , 12.5% ABV

Enjoy With

Beef carpaccio, raclette, anything served with cornichons. Order the pickle plate for the table and tuck in.

Drink When

You want to warm the hearth with old school California charm. Enchanting acidity keeps it real in the kitchen and the conversation.

Martha's Notes

The 2023 vintage from Hawkeye Ranch is truly exceptional, shaped by remarkably cool weather and an extended growing season. The unique climate at Pete Johnson’s vineyard in Redwood Valley, where overnight temperatures often drop 30 degrees (F) below daytime highs, allows for cool air to pool into the valley, providing natural relief to the vines during the hottest days. Dry farming techniques, combined with this vintage’s long season, have resulted in a deeply concentrated and flavorful expression of the 1960s-era vines, elegantly balancing California sunshine with restraint. Longer barrel élevage (2.5 years) allows for earthier tertiary notes to develop vs the 2023 Pinot (bottled after 10 months in barrel).
