Enjoy With
BBQ, Burger, Baba Ghanoush! Enjoy this bottle with bolognese, roasted eggplant, or heat up the bbq for a nice burger. Whatever you do, be sure to keep the gas on to grill up some nectarines for dessert with a sprinkling of thyme.
Drink When
You’re washing the dirt out from under your nails after a day digging in the garden, firing up the grill, and gathering whoever you call family for an outdoor feast.

Martha's Notes
Mama doesn’t have a favorite child, but if she did… I
n body weight and easy drinkability (without being glou-glou), this wine reminds me of many of the Cru Beaujolais wines I fell in love with and drank in the early 2010’s. Just perfect for every occasion. The other day, a friend said “All I know about Zinfandel is I don’t like it” (but then she tried ours :) Zinfandel is notorious for its uneven ripening—often green berries, ripe berries, and raisins are found on the same cluster—and many winemakers wait until all those green berries have ripened, which means far more raisining. I feel like the Princess and the Pea with raisins in wine: unless intentional, one raisin is one too many! The sandy soils at Del Barba gently radiate the day’s heat, similar to how slate in the Mosel helps ripen Riesling. This radiant heat plus the head-trained vines’ canopy protects the fruit from the sun, creating an amazing wine: fruit and spice, superfine low tannin, and lower ABV—a win!

Zinfandel from Del Barba Vineyard, Oakley, Contra Costa County; dry farmed (non-irrigated) vineyard; pure sandy soils (like walking on a beach). 1960’s planting.
Valdiguié from Venturi Vineyard, Calpella, Mendocino County; dry farmed (non-irrigated), certified organic vineyard; Pinole gravelly loam soils.
Vinification Notes:
Zinfandel (100% destemmed) and Valdiguié (100% whole cluster) hand-harvested and fermented separately. A mixture of punchdowns and pumpovers were used to gently extract tannin and each lot was pressed prior to dryness. Aged in a combination of stainless steel (Zinfandel) and neutral oak barrel (Valdigiué) before blending and bottling. Unfined. Gently filtered. Sediment expected (not cold stabilized).
